Duct Design Basics @ PPA Training Center
Sep 27 @ 9:00 am – 3:00 pm

To ensure comfort and efficiency, today’s heating and cooling
equipment must be installed properly. Hot air, heat pumps and
cooling equipment need proper air flow. Too much air and the
system is drafty, humid, and uncomfortable; too little and the
system will not perform properly and the unit will have a
shortened life span.
Ralph Adams from Gray Metal Products will take all the
guesswork out of airflow and duct design. The course will
discuss the importance of proper airflow, pressure drops, static
pressure, blower performance charts, and measuring pressure
drops across different devices.
We will go through a step-by-step process laying out a duct
system including duct length, duct fittings, selecting equipment,
friction rates, and branch sizes. This course is valuable to installers and service personal alike.

NORA Gold – Venting @ PPA Training Center
Sep 28 @ 9:00 am – 3:00 pm

As heating equipment becomes more efficient, venting becomes more critical. With older equipment, high stack temperatures helped overcome poor installations and marginal chimneys. The NORA Gold Venting Certification class is designed to insure venting is done correctly. The program includes the requirements for proper venting, which involves combustion air, Dilution air and ventilation air. Subjects include:

  • Chimney venting – sizing, lining, blocked vent safety switches, the importance of proper draft and the use of draft regulators and draft inducers
  • The proper installations, maintenance, and service of Power Venting and Direct Vent systems
  • Venting for condensing appliances

This course is designed for solving venting issues but is also included in NORA’s Gold Program. This will be the fourth Gold Certification class held by the PPA this training season.

Sep 29 @ 9:00 am – 4:00 pm

This course will begin by exploring combustion and combustion testing, why to look for different elements in the flue and what do they tell us? How do we adjust a burner for peak efficiency and operation. We will discuss the operation of the different components on the Riello, Carlin and Beckett burners and how to troubleshoot these components.

This course is designed for new technicians and a review for the veterans on your staff, with a strong emphasis on operation and troubleshooting.

Our Instructor: Tim has a longstanding history of nearly 30 years in the industry. He teaches from experience, drawing on his many years as an HVAC service-and-installation technician and service manager.
